BCMC Members & Friends Everywhere
Two weeks ago today (12/23) at 5:17 in the evening, I spoke with a
good friend for the last time.

This is the first club email since Joe passed sometime soon after
that phone call. By passed, I mean that some animal(s) murdered my
friend.

I figured I'd let you hear about it elsewhere first. It's all over
the internet. Lots of wrong information, but you get the general
idea: Sometime in the late evening of Dec 23/early AM of Dec 24th,
Joe Gosinski, owner of Chicane Sport Tuning, was killed by unknown
person(s) at his shop in Torrance, CA. <a

I thought of him like a brother. Pam called us an old married
couple. He'd call on his way home from the shop, during "family
time". We were always full of ideas for our Mustang related
businesses, or an upcoming show. We'd argue. We'd give each other a
hard time. We'd vent about whatever Mustang owner was giving either
of us a hard time, either about working on their cars or them not
getting trophies. We spoke a lot about a "bigger & better"
show....

For the last 2 weeks, I've spent a lot of time trying to think of
Joe as "just a show vendor". That he only did a little work on my
car. I try to live in a time that we were pissed at each other over
some stupid thing. But I just can't do it.

He was one of the first guys my little boy JT called "uncle". He
spent about a weeks worth of time working on new home remodel. I'd
pick up JT from daycare and go see Uncle Joe, and you knew it was ok
for him to crawl on those way-to-clean floors in the shop. I've
known him since just before he joined the BCMC in May of 2000, soon
after opening Chicane Sport Tuning with BCMCer Chris Hoff. Chicane
soon became the absolute best tuner shop in the area. My last really
fun memory was playing blackjack with Joe & Mark Patrzik
(Saleen, Roush, etc) at the Vegas Hilton after a long day at the
2010 SEMA Show last Nov.

I've thought a lot about what I might type here once this important
(important part coming up) email went out. I'm here typing about things
we did, but I still can not express what I thought of Joe. I
have so much pain. I cry every day. It is just crazy and it is not
right. What the hell? How can the guy just be gone like that? And
the way it happened just makes it worse.

When it really starts to hurt, I would start to think about... an
event. I think of cars, registration forms, databases, parking
vents, radios. And lots of people. I see these things in my head,
and it is the only thing that gives me peace in the middle the pain,
fear, confusion, etc. Some odd event-promoter gene, I suppose. But I
often wind up thinking about doing something that can help... I
found few other close friends of Joe who wanted to do something too.
I got the (usually taking a Jan-March break) BCMC Show Committee on
board as well. After a week going over details with friends &
family, here is what we came up with:
Please click on the logo above to be taken to the registration &
information webpage. All profits will go towards a reward fund
that was just started with a $5000 donation guarantee by
"Annon. Friends of Joe". As with past SUPERCRUISEs, there will be a
few stops throughout SoCal, each celebrating a different aspect of
Joe's life. A $20 registration fee and several auctions will help to
add to the Reward Fund. Lunch will be included.
We are asking people to pre-register to 1) help quickly
build the Reward Fund, and 2) to help us have a count to deal with
the logistics of 100s of vehicles moving from place to place,
including feeding everyone. The starting location will be provided
to those who pre-register.
You've just read about the outline of the event. But this will be
more than just a cruise. As with any memorial, this is also a place
to grieve, to heal, and to celebrate the life of our friend, Joe
Gosinski. It will be unlike any memorial you've ever attended, and
it is the most important event I've ever had the honor to help plan.
Thankfully I have friends Max, Matt, Rene & Sal to help - plus
dozens of offers of further help (so far).
If you can not make the Cruise, you can still participate. Please
consider making a donation of any amount towards the Reward Fund.
Click the logo above and you can donate online.
Though I have already typed more than you probably wanted to
read, I could still go on and on. So, just a quick last story:
Yesterday, JT ripped open up a collectible car package that Joe gave
him about a month ago. I started feeling bad about that, Joe's last
gift, and the value of that and all. Then Pam said that Joe would
want JT to play with it. Yeah. He would, huh? While Joe worked on
some show cars and came up with some great track-car stuff - his
base customer was someone who drove their car, and wanted to take it
to the next level. To enjoy it more. To play with it...
Some people track their cars, more take them to car shows. But everyone
drives their car. Thus, a cruise to celebrate the life of our
friend Joe. I hope you'll join us, or if you can't make the date,
please consider contributing any amount to the Reward Fund.
Thank you for reading this far, and stay safe
