You need a gun license to own any firearms in California. The one Yosemiddysam just bought is illegal in California. Any rifle that features a pistol grip or collapsible/folding stock, detachable magazines, hold more then 10 rounds, and many more features, too many to list are consider assault weapons and are illegal in California. Unless you own one prior to the ban in 2000 and it was registered prior to the deadline. In another word, good luck in getting one in California.
