Input needed on Military

Been thinking of joining the military. I've been looking into the air force. The career I've been looking at is pararescue. I've been studying and preparing for the asvab so I can hopefully score high and have many options available. Friday I'm going to talk to a recruiter. I'm also going to be looking at the other branches of the military and see what they all have to offer. What are your guys thoughts? Experiences?

Ok cool thanks. I've been doing my research and reading up on as much material as I can. I've read on how the recruiters can be tricky on your contract. Thanks

Every service can be good to you if you put the effort in yourself. It just depends on what your goals are. Regardless though, they're right, read every last line of your contract. don't feel pressured by any recruiter. if they tell you something and it's not on paper, then its not true. don't let them try to talk their way around whatever promises they make, make them put it in your contract. If its not exactly what you want, then don't sign it, simple as that.

overall the Marine Corps has been good to me, but nothing is free, it requires a lot of time and effort on your part to get the benefits you deserve. No one can really tell you whether or not a particular service is right for you, it's something you really have to experience. If you like it, do good things and stay. If not, thats okay too, you can serve your 4 years honorably and move on to other things.

It really depends on what you want to do. My suggestions has always been to pick a training in the military that you can benefit from when you come back out to the civilian world. I saw you want to get into pararescue with the Air Force. Keep in mind, it is possible the Air Force may not be taking in new recruits, they could be close. You can look into the Navy SEALs, if doing Special Operations is what you want to do. But if you are looking for something for the medical field, the Navy has the Corpman rate. But again, the Navy may also be close for new recruits at this time.

The main thing is, like everyone said above, read each line of the contract carefully. Don't overlook anything. If the recruiter promised you something, make sure it is written in the contract, otherwise, it never existed. Don't let them tell you don't worry about it, do worry about it. Have everything in writing or you could be screwed once you get to bootcamp. The military is what you make of it, you get what you put into it. Don't let those who are negative affect you. In the long run, you will benefit from your time in the military. I know I did. It forced me to grow up and mature and I developed skills I woud not have acquired had it not for the military.

Good luck with your decisions. Let us know if you have any other. Glad to help you.

I did 8 years in the Army before I was injured. Joining the Military was the best decision I made and learned a lot from it. My suggestion like many others have said is study for the ASVAB so it opens more doors, and make sure you get into something you want not what they tell you, you can do. Best of luck

You should also look into the Coast Gaurd. If you want to truely work in your environment and assist those in need, the Coast Gaurd is perfect. They conduct real time rescues and dont just practice.

Silver, the contract thing is very important regardless of which branch of service you choose. I'm not going to repeat what everyone has already said. I will say that it does really depend on what you want to gain from the military branch and what you are willing to give to the military branch as well. The Marine Corps was an excellent choice for me, mostly because of family tradition as well as a personal challenge to be a part of something unique. What I do stress for you to concider is that every branch will ask something different from you... It may be long deployments to Afganistan or getting stationed over seas for a few years. Or maybe getting stationed in a small town in the middle of no where in the U.S. somewhere. Ask your self what you wouldn't mind doing, then see what branch is best for you. If you have any questions please ask them bro! We are all willing to help! Good luck and thank you for considering to serve our country! Semper Fi!

All well stated. could not have covered anything any better. ASVAB, Contract review, Pick something you can use once you get out, and what are you willing to tolerate? Ball is in your court brother.
