Description
Ford Racing introduces its latest high performance intake manifold for the 2005-2010 4.6 Liter Mustang 3-valve engine. The intake is designed to compliment hot cams, performance heads, added displacement or forced induction. When used with other Ford Racing components, it can extend the RPM band and increase airflow while losing minimal torque on the bottom end. Compared to the OE manifold, the Ford Racing intake made 40 more horsepower at 6800 rpms.
So you have your cold air intake, tuner, and great sounding mufflers installed. You may have even installed a new set of headers and an x-pipe. Now your scratching your head wondering what you want to do next. Not sure you want to jump for the supercharger or turbo setup but also want to take it to next level. Afterall, the Camaro and Challenger are boasting 400+HP stock and we know those owners aren't leaving them untouched. Ford Racing has worked hard to bring together a complete top end power package. Through extensive testing and prototyping, Ford Racing has designed a matched set of CNC ported heads, Hot Rod Camshafts, billet throttle body, and their new Ford Racing intake manifold. The hot rod cammer crate engine currently offered utilizes the stock OE manifold and throttle body and is rated at 350HP. That is pretty respectable for a standard 4.6L with the stock heads and hot rod cams and cold air intake. But now, with the addition of the new billet throttle body, high flow manifold, and CNC ported heads to the hot rod cams; the power jump for the 4.6L 3 Valve engine is incredible. All of this is accomplished while minimizing low end torque losses. So you retain the low end response off the line and gain huge power in the mid range and top end.
The Ford Racing 3-valve intake was designed using CAD modeling technology and data from the production intake manifold ensuring it's matched to the volumetric efficiency and unique characteristics of the 3-valve Modular engine. From the CAD model, nylon rapid prototype manufacturing was used to build numerous manifolds with varied volumes and runner lengths which were dyno-tested for power confirmation before final design sign-off.

Dyno Testing Update April 2010: Ford Racing has tested a 4.6L motor with this top end power package, their 85MM cold air intake, and long tube headers. The result was an EASY 425 HP at 6300 RPM and 380 Ft-lbs Torque at 4600 RPM with proper calibration. Proper calibration is important. Power continued to build over 440 HP as the engine reached 7000 RPM. The engine also made over 275 Ft-lbs Torque from 2400 RPM and steadily increased to 375 Ft-lbs Torque at 4,600-6,000 RPM. These numbers are SAE corrected number as measured on an engine dyno at the flywheel. Expect to see about 12-15% less at the rear wheels with proper calibration. This power package is a nice alternative/update to keep your car on pace with the new 5.0L motor while staying normally aspirated with great low end torque and throttle response. This power package also leaves the door open to adding forced induction from either centrifugal supercharger or turbo setups for well over 600 HP. Ford Racing's internal testing recommends that their upgraded aluminator forged internal short block assembly (M-6009-A463SC) be used when making over 600 HP. Otherwise, this top end power package will be fine for the stock short block.

Brand New Ford Racing Hot Rod Camshafts -- the most powerful camshafts on the market that works with the stock valvetrain and variable cam timing system (no timing lockouts needed). This is important because the variable cam timing system is important to retaining good driveability characteristics and low end torque. Brand X cams that require upgraded valvetrain and cam timing lockouts are not optimal for street cars and cars that want to retain maximum low end torque. Your usually not driving over 4,500 RPM. That is why these performance cams are a great fit since they retain the use of the variable cam timing system and still have that wicked exhaust sound. The instruction sheet includes recommended variable cam timing values for your custom tuner to reference.
Ford Racing Intake Manifold with high flow runners and open plenum design featuring lightweight composite construction (same material as OE intake manifold), 13lbs vs. 30 lbs aftermarket aluminum intakes (aluminum aftermarket intakes retail for $799 alone -- ouch). Fits under stock hood. Composite material has better heat resistance than aluminum intakes which means less cooler inlet air temps. Why dont other companies use composite? Because it is much more costly for smaller companies to develop and produce than using an aluminum casting. Only an OEM supplier through Ford Racing can bring you this technology at an affordable level.
Ford Racing 62MM Billet Throttle Body with brand new electronic throttle control assembly already installed. Tested and passed OE durability requirements and hot and cold weather testing. And it is has has nicely polished finish.
Ford Racing Valve Covers. Quality powder coating designed to dress-up your engine. You can choose from the list of available color options before ordering using the drop down menu. If you're going to replace the heads and cams, might as well put on a nice set of valve covers to compliment the other goodies under the hood.
Custom tuning is required (to dial-in the new throttle body, variable cam timing settings, and CMCV deletion) and is not included. You probably already have a handheld tuner so getting a proper custom tune is not an issue.
