trouble getting smog tested

I registered my car awhile back but couldnt finish the registration because the seller never gave me the smog cert and all that stuff. well i tried getting it smogged today but they wouldnt do it because i have an aftermarket throttle body and cold air intake, and they said that i would have to get a sticker saying that its legal but never really told me how to get one. Does anyone know what im talking about or had this problem before? Im from Illinois so I have never had to get my car smogged.

go to a different place... Some are not that stringent.. What Throttle body and cold air do you have?

Can you register your car in Illinois? Are you military?

yea im military...i just paid $761 to register it but i think im going to spend the money and register it in Illinois

Where did you register it in? You are covered by military non resident clause

i registered it at the DMV on Mainside. and im pretty sure im covered

Aw man I would say dont go there on base go out in town to the DMV, I think the one on base charges extra fee's. They have you fill out a piece of paper and show your military ID and you pay alot less. I think i used to pay $68 a year for mine.

Military Non Resident you don't pay california fees.. Should be around 48 dollars DMV owes you money if you paid 700+
