Gear Install

Was wondering if anyone knows a good place to have gears installed around the San Diego area, and maybe what they charge. I would do them myself, but a little nervous about it.

I can do the install if you are interested. I will also teach you and you can do the next set on your own. I have all the tools and we usually conduct the install on a lift. PM me for details if your interested. Like the members say, I intall the gears and a donation is made to the club. The donation supports our events and the race car.

+1 for CWO to do them. Just make sure you follow his instructions about heat cycles and such, right Danny? LOL

Hope to make a donation to the club when we get back.

I went with your first link (American muscle) when I did mine. If you have the extra money you could put a nice differential cover on while it's already off.

Yes, I put a GMS rear diff cover on mine. Its a good investment, add strength.

Agree with Ford1288 on the choice of gear installation kit.

I recommend the Motive Gear Install Kit. The Ford Racing kit is more expensive due to name branding. Almost every bearing for the 8.8 is made by Timken and then sold to other companies for redistribution. The Motive Gear Kit has all the hard parts required for the install. Gear diff oil will be 75-90 (two quarts), the friction inhibitor (4 ounces) should be picked up from a Ford Dealer (best), and RTV is one tube of black.

So the motive will be fine, and includes all the bearings and everything else to do the rebuild that we discussed? It just looks like there is more to the Ford Brand. If the motive will work fine, then I will go ahead and order it tonight. Thanks
